Abbotsleigh College, Wahroonga
Abbotsleigh Z Club
Chartered: 2005
Sponsored by the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Club of North Sydney
Located: Abbotsleigh School for Girls is in the northern suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales
Our goal is to raise awareness of world issues for ourselves and the school community. As we learn and educate ourselves and our peers about women’s circumstances in developing countries we become more aware of how fortunate we are and that not many women have the same opportunities as we do in our home country. We have supported these causes through awareness campaigns and fundraising.
2025 has been an active and positive year for the Abbotsleigh Z Club, which meets fortnightly. During the meetings, we discuss upcoming fundraising plans and invite girls to offer ideas on what fund-raising stalls they are interested in. The Club advertises its fundraisers on the school Instagram account and in March posted an International Women’s Day video created by one of the Club’s leaders.
The Club educates members about ³Ô¹ÏÍø and its role in pushing to close the gender gap through teaching, showing videos, and playing interactive games. We discuss how the issues women face differ across the globe and at the school’s International Women’s Day assembly we expressed how crucial the 2025 theme ‘Accelerate Action’ is, given the societal barriers that many women face in our world.
The Club has held several successful fund-raising events in 2025, including a bake sale, a DIY cookie stall, and an ice cream float stall at the Cross Country carnival. The Club managed a gozleme stall at the School’s GLOW festival, handed out pamphlets about ³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s mission and spoke to visitors about the breast care cushion initiative and the importance of our club.
These efforts have resulted in more than $1000 raised this year, donated to the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Club of Northern Sydney for breast care cushions, birthing kits, and the Laaha International Service Project.
